This talk made me want to go back and be a teacher instead of just a substitute. But it also made me remember my goal as a photographer. Yes I do a lot of the formal traditional shots but those are not the ones I love. The ones that bring tears to my eyes are the staged candid little moments.
This is why I take photos, to document this type of relationship. I hope that this is the images the parents remember as they struggle with their teenage son who is out past curfew. This is the kind of relationship I want everyone to remember is worth fighting for. It takes work and long hours but it is so breathtaking magical that it there's nothing in the world that can take it's place. A home in which the child can play, and be themselves and know their parents love them is the most remarkable relationship of all. And one truly worth hanging on the wall.
